Overview

The Bit Gag Bridle & Reins are built as a leather bridle, bit, and rein system for controlled handling.

The bridle structure positions the bit at the mouth line while the upper strap stabilizes the fit around the forehead.

The bit provides the rein connection point, allowing handling input to transfer through the side rings while the bridle keeps the system positioned.

Materials & Build

Bit Gag Bridle & Reins materials detail

Outer Structure
Hand-dyed full grain leather forms the bridle harness, providing structure through the forehead, cheek, and muzzle positioning points.

Contact/Lining Layer
Suede-lined strapping sits against the skin at the primary contact areas, reducing direct contact with the leather outer.

Bit
A metal bit sits at the mouth line and provides the primary rein connection point. ** Rubberized bits available, message for quote.

Hardware
Solid cast hardware is used throughout the bridle system for the buckles, rings, and connection points.

Reins
Double-buckle reins attach to the bit rings and are available in multiple lengths depending on the intended handling distance.

Construction
The bridle is built with riveted construction at the primary connection points. Each piece is made to order.

Care Instructions

Leather & Metal Bit:
Wipe the leather outer and metal bit with a damp cloth as needed, then dry fully with a soft cloth.

Suede Lining:
Dry brush the suede to remove debris. Do not soak or use detergent on the lining.

Sizing & Dimensions

Bit Gag Bridle & Reins sizing detail

Sizing
Measure with the mouth closed.

Muzzle
With the tape measure parallel to the floor, measure around the head at the mouth line.

Brow
Measure around the forehead just above the brow line.

Custom sizing is available at no additional cost. Add your measurements in the order notes for a more precise fit.

Bit Dimensions
5" mouthpiece with 1-5/8" rings.

Rein Lengths
Handle = 12"
Short = 24"
Medium = 36"
Long = 48"

Reins are measured from end to end.

Fit
The bridle should sit securely enough to maintain bit position without shifting across the face. Measure closely and avoid adding excess room unless a looser fit is specifically preferred.

How It Works

The bridle harness stabilizes the bit at the mouth line while the forehead and cheek straps help maintain placement.

The bit acts as the primary rein connection point. When the reins are engaged, handling input transfers through the side rings rather than through the leather structure alone.

Select the rein length based on handling distance. Shorter reins keep the handler closer to the wearer, while longer reins allow more distance and movement range.

Because the bit sits in the mouth, handling should stay controlled and responsive. Tension should be applied deliberately and released when no longer needed.
